ROOM......4/20/11
So far this book is really good. I still cant believe that they finally got free after all that time and years in that room. Now I just dont know what they are going to do in the real world. They have so many things to worry about now, and I feel like its going to take a toll on Jacks mother. I feel horrible for them, I know that they are just trying to fit in to the world that the mother left behind but there are so many new changes and things that not only does she have to adjust to but Jack has to learn all this new stuff, that he has never seen or heard of before. I feel like his mom is going to end up having a mental breakdown because Jack asks so many questions and she is sick of answering them all the time, but in a way i dont feel bad for her at all because she was the one who lied to him and told him all these things werent true. I think it would have been important to have Jack in the interview with the media, because i feel like even though she is wanting to protect him she is hiding him, when she should show him and see how he has developed. She said she was doing it for his college fund later in life, well i think to myself what if he never develops? Im interested in knowing where they are going to live, if the mom will get a job, or ever find love again?

Room Continued 4/13/11
The main character Jack is worthy of praise for the simple fact that he is so brave considering the fact that he has lived in a room his entire life. Having limited resouces, and not being able to eat anything you want when you want to, and having only small proportions when you do get to eat I think would be really hard. This book makes me realize how good a lot of people have it, and all the freedom we have. Jack doesnt get to learn the way we all do, and hasnt even had any teaching except for the small things his mother has taught him about the outside world. You can even tell by the way he talks, he doesnt say full sentences that make sense which make it hard to understand him, or what he is talking about. If I was his mother I would get frustrated all the time, because he doesnt understand alot when she is trying to explain something, or when she tells him something is real and he wont believe her I would find it so frustrating. When he finally went through with the escape and did what his mother asked of him to free themseleves I found that very brave, and had to take a lot out of him. He had to be so scared. Never being out on your own without his mother, and having to find someone to help him when he didnt even know there were other people in the world besides the two others he has only ever known was very worthy of praise.

Cont, Room 4/6/11
I am really enjoying this book for my second novel choice. Room is a really great book so far and even not finishing it I would still recommend the book to anyone. So far Jack and his mom have been trapped in this room for a long time. Actually for Jack his whole life, and for his mom shes been in there for seven years. We come to find out that his mother was kidnapped by "Old Nick" and was raped and thats how exactly Jack was brought into this world. To me when I read that and found out that old Nick was really his dad I was kind of shocked, I think deep down I knew that he had to be his dad if he was born in the room but I cant believe that someone is capable of doing something like that. I was thinking to myself when reading that part if she loves him the same as she would if he was born by a guy she was in love with or married too. I couldnt imagine having a child from someone who raped me. I mean i would still love him or her because they are my child and I would take care of them no matter what, but I think it would be really hard to except the fact that he was born or his father is the guy who raped her and she concieved a child. There are a lot of things in this book that make me super angry and feel really bad for them, not only are they locked in this tiny room with no fresh air ever, but they only get a limited supply of food, they dont get many nice things when they do get Sunday treats and the fact that Jack is not up to par as far as he should be with his learning abilities. I cant wait to finish this book and find out if they ever get to get out the Room.

Room...3/30/11
The significance of the title "ROOM" is a perfect title for this book because the two main characters, Jack and his mother are trapped in this room, where they cant leave or do anything social. They have some of the normal things other people who have freedom do, such as; television, stove, fridge, bed, closet, and much more. The mother is pretty smart, seeing as she wasnt born inside the room, and knows alot about the outside world, but her son Jack who is the narrator doesnt know alot of what the outside world is really like, he learns from his mom and watching the tv to know about things happening on the outside, or what stuff is really like. I feel really bad for Jack because he is so young and has never been outside of the room, he has been since there since birth and doesnt know anything different. Makes me think what will happen if they ever get out, he would have to be in shock to learn what the real world is like. His speech isnt proper either since he has never been taught, or gotten the chance to learn in a school. His mom is all he has, and he relys on her for everything.
Jack lives in a room.
where he plays and sits and waits for doom.
He wishes he had a friend
that could be there till the end.
His mom is the only one
he has to depend on
Jack is a little boy
who looks forward to playing with his toy.
Jack lives in a room.
where he sits and waits for doom.

The Lovely Bones
The new book I am reading not for the second semester novel, but just in my own time that I will probably do for extra credit is "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold. This book is really different to me simply for the fact that it is in the persepective of the young girl murdered who is telling her story, but she is already in heaven. To me that is kind of weird, just because once your in heaven I dont think people would be able to hear you, and you wouldnt be able to discuss all your thoughts with someone who isnt in heaven with you like us the readers. This book so far has really touched me though, and the way she describes everything is neat, it really gives you a feel for what her family, and friends are like. The man who killed Susie, who is the main character I think is a jerk and is very cruel. The fact that she isnt the first one he has done something like that to, makes me sick to my stomach to think he gets away with it and goes on living normally. I am really excited to read this book along with my novel for the second semester which I decided "Room" look and sounded really interesting. The only thing I can complain about in this book is the fact that there are alot of parts that I feel dont really matter, and kind of make me want to skip over them, and when reading a book that I think looks good it is kind of dissapointing to have that happen. I am not very far in, only chapter 11 so I am hoping it gets more interesting as it goes on, because at the begining all the excitement and important parts are told right away. I will keep everyone updated though.

Shocker.
This book really took a huge turn that I had no idea would happen. We come to find out that Micah is a werewolf. This was a major part of the novel for me, because honestly I personally did not see this coming. You go from thinking that she is just this liar, and that you keep thinking the whole time is she really telling the truth throughout the whole book? Honestly we have no idea, it is a book for one, so it's not like its a true story, and she keeps telling us different lies throughout the book when we thought she was telling us the truth. She stops and continues to tell us during the book what parts she has lied about. Its very frustrating reading a book when you dont trust anything that is happening, and when it leaves you wondering everytime you close the book. I was super shocked when she told us the family secret... that she was in face a werewolf. This book made me have the feeling we were going to find out she was the one who killed Zack, until we discovered that secret. Since ive finished the book this last weekend, there is alot more i would like to say but I cant as I dont want to ruin this book...for others. I just am really disappointed and im not sure if this book would be one I would recommend or not.

"Liar" 2/22/11
So far this book has really made me realize how much lying can cause people to not trust you at all. I do not believe a word Micah says, and it makes it hard to trust her now and wonder if she really is telling the truth after all. I think that some of the parts are true and others she is still lying about. One reason is at the beginning of the book she told us that she was Zach's girlfriend, and now all of a sudden when she talks to the cops, and to Sarah they were never dating. That is what makes me think that she is still lying. So far in the book I dont know if i would recommend it to someone, but we are only half way through and we still don't really know what is going on besides the fact that she used to lie and that Zach was found dead. So I cant really judge it until I am completely finished with it. I think that one reason many people dislike Micah is because she was known for lying so much, and everyone in her own school thinks she is a liar. Another thing im really confused about is; what exactly is the family illness that part always confuses me? Is it the lying, or what exactly is it. Deep down I feel like Micah knows a lot more about Zachs death than she is letting people believe. Not so much that she killed him, but that she might know who did, or she is lying about it. Thats one thing that makes it easy to believe bad, or think negative about someone who lies, because deep down none of us really know who she is, and if she is ever telling us the truth, so for me at least it is easy to believe that she could possibly be the killer, or that she at least knows something about it.

"Liar"
This book we recently started reading is called "Liar." I think the significance of this title is because the main character always lies, or she used to always lie, that is until she decides to tell her story to us by being honest. I think that the main character should be given some kind of praise for being honest with the viewers because she used to always lie and thats a big thing to go from being a liar to telling people she doesnt know her story by being completely honest. I think she must have a reason that she always lied and hopefully we as the readers will figure that out. I think that the reason she decided to share the story by being honest is because a classmate of hers said she was the reason her boyfriend Zack is dead, and I think she feels like she should explain her story by being completely honest, so as people know she did used to lie a lot, but now she is going to tell us the truth. I really like this girl, and I commend her for telling her story as she knows it and for being honest. She could easily lie to us as the readers the entire time and we wouldnt even know, but the fact that she started the book off by telling us she is a liar and that is all in the past, and that she will tell us what happend by being honest is a big thing. I think she used to lie to the people she knew because then she could be anyone she wanted to, and not the person she saw herself as. A lot of kids I think try and do that, try and make a new person for themselves because they dont like who they are. Im sure her life is far from easy, or that she had a good life, so maybe she thought by lying, or just not telling the truth was something she could do and get away with it, or obviously be good at it and fool everyone. Im very interested in this book already, that I continued on after we were suppose to stop after 65 pages, Im really curious to see who this girl is, and what happend to her boyfriend Zack.

To Save A Life.
The book I finished reading recently, is called "To Save A Life." This book changed my view about life a lot and how people should really live their lives everyday. This book has many moments that relate to me kind of by how Jake the main character decides to look into his faith after his childhood bestfriend, Roger commits suicide. I never had a friend commit suicide but I have tried using my faith to help a friend, or to try and help persuade them that if they are having problems they should try going to God, or church or maybe just by praying. About a year ago my mom and dad went to this church thing in Bloomington, and they left on a Thursday and were gone for the entire weekend, without phones, or any form of technology. When they came home it was like they were two whole different people, they go to church every week religiously, and they try and live their life for God, I guess is a more simple form to put it. And at first I was just kind of annoyed and didnt think that I liked them this way, but now a year and a half later I really am proud of both of them for how they live their life now, and even though I may not be ready for that, I am really glad they are happy with their lives now, and how they try and encourage other people to be more like that. Many teens today dont understand how much of an impact God can have one someone, and that wether or not they believe or whether or not they go to church even praying or just doing the right thing can help out. This book really made me understand the importance of sticking up for people even if your friends are the ones bullying, just being the bigger person and sticking up for someone can maybe literally "save a life." This book will leave you touched at least it did for me, and hopefully for some it will want you to make a difference in your life, and others too.

About Me :)
Hello Class,
As you may know my name is Hilary. Im nineteen years old, and i'm from a small town about forty minutes East from here called El Paso. I have two brothers and two sisters. I am the middle child, which unfortunately for me is a bad thing. Im going to Icc to be a physical therapist. I work at the nursing home in El Paso as a housekeeper and I also work at the Woodford County Jail, as a cook. I really enjoy reading. Something kind of weird about me is I really like sourcream, almost with any kind of food.
I hope to get to know alot of you more, and make some new friends. Im really outgoing, and easy to get along with.
